------An Autumn Walk------

I went for a walk into the woods

this fine November day.

The sun was bright, the air was sharp,

and the breeze was starting to play.

I saw the birds overhead

winging to warmer places

and watched the squirrels in the trees

put nuts in secret spaces.

There were fewer leaves on the trees

yet still I saw some falling.

If wakened by this autumn scene

I heard the cosmos calling.

Go your way, make a change,

go seek a distant dawn.

It's now the time to answer

to nature's secret song.

I silently contemplated

of marching to that distant drum.

I questioned of what I was running to

or what I was running from.

Don't fear the the new horizon

a brighter day will shine.

You can't dwell upon the past

or memories left behind.

There were no golden days

you wish life was rich and sweet.

Go follow the sun and live your dream

where reality and happiness meet.

I walked a while and talked a while

with my secret self.

Taking down my memories

from a dusty shelf.

From deep inside I couldn't hide

the walls I've always borne.

When you get the perfect rose

you may also get a thorn.

The days were good and bad and good

and some you'd rather not take.

God may have made a perfect world

yet still we learn from each mistake

On the hilltop calling me

and bringing me back home.

I hear a voice so sweet and soft

and why I'm not alone.

My life with all my foolish dreams

is shared until I die.

The one who keeps me satisfied

walks up and tells me Hi.
