------Perfection------
I look at life and accept what I see
The diamond, the painting or personality
But when choices are made by looking real hard
The things you may find can catch you off guard
An unnoticed flaw or an unsightly blem
Appraisals, rejudgements,...... a discarded gem
I guess it's by nature that all creatures discern
From social standards to mating, things we don't have to learn
But compared with all others who live on this earth
we've rewritten the values we were given at birth
We can read of man's progress from the earliest age
But have we turned this planet into our private cage
A mutated gene gone awry in life's plan
We destroy or improve it to the best that we can
From gardens to barnyards, mother nature we change
but it may be us next that "she" might rearrange
Tho' the species of humans did slowly arise
when demanding perfection, "We've" taken first prize!

** We all must admit that we echo this cry
when the temperature's hot and our throat's feeling dry
"The water gets muddy yet quenches your thirst,
but please let me have the clean water first."
