------My Friend------

I want a friend so much it hurts
I don't know where to look
The ones I thought I had before
never gave, they always took
To me, a friend will think of you
responding to your needs
And you, of course, reciprocate
each planting friendship seeds

These seeds evolve with proper care
into a lasting bond
Kind deeds and understanding grow
like ripples in a pond
Unselfish acts to help a friend
affects the way you feel
For friends and not acquaintances
subdue that lonely chill

Today folks seem to isolate
their lives from one another
They wouldn't do a thing for you
much less a sis' or brother
I wonder if the day will come
when such a friend I'll see
It seems few have these qualities
So I'll just be friends with me.
