NORTHPORT Barbara Stakem McCartney of Northport died Nov. 20, 2012, at Hospice of West Alabama. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Dolan Davis officiating and Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Stakem, and her brother, Ricky Stakem. Survivors include her husband, John R. McCartney of Northport; her son, Andy McCartney of Tuscaloosa; her sister, Becky Fowler (Don) of Tuscaloosa; her brothers, James V. Stakem Jr. and Bill Stakem (Nola), both of Tuscaloosa, and Randy Stakem of Berry; and her father, James V. Stakem Sr. of Tuscaloosa. Barbara enjoyed dancing as a girl and worked at the University of Alabama as a young woman, including serving as office manager of the Psychological Clinic. She was a petite woman with a big personality. She always made her family feel loved and cared for, and, although others seldom had the opportunity to see it, she frequently made us laugh with her sharp wit and silly dance moves. She was quick with a hug, a delight to be with, and her bright smile, sweet eyes, and gentle affection will be greatly missed. Her husband and son doted on her constantly and will always miss hugging, kissing, and holding her. We are so thankful that she is now at home with her Lord Jesus. Pallbearers will be Wade Cooper, Jeremy Colburn, B.J. Stakem, Randall Stakem Jr., Joey Glasgow, and Brad Moody. Honorary pallbearers are special niece Rachel Elizabeth Fowler, Dr. W. Keith DeBell, and members of Calvary Baptist Church and Safe Haven Church.
