William Robert Walker, Jr.

Born on September 12, 1946, he grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1964. His mother, Laverne McLain Walker, and father, William R. Walker, preceded him in death. Bob received B.S. and M.A. degrees from the University of Alabama, an M.A. degree from Salve Regina College in Newport, Rhode Island, and an M.A. degree from the University of West Florida. Mr. Walker enlisted in the Alabama Army National Guard at age 17½ and rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant before he entered Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida in 1974. He ended his military service with the rank of Commander, having served a total of 34½ years. Bob was a life-long learner who enjoyed travel and friendships acquired throughout his military career. He is survived by his former spouse, Jan Walker; a son, Regan Walker (Dusty); a daughter, Laura Lyons (Owen); a loyal brother, James M. “Pete" Walker; two uncles, William I. McLain and Beasor B. Walker; an aunt, Eunice Clements; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends, both locally and nationwide. A private burial will be at Barrancas National Military Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be sent in Bob’s name to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, 875 North Randolph Street, Suite 225, Arlington, VA 22203.
